The resources in the Japanese coast were greatly affected by this tsunami. The tsunami polluted the water around this area and added debris to the ocean preventing the sunlight to reach the oceans bottom. This killed a lot of the producers in the area creating a competition between the serving animals. Animals such as crabs, shellfish, mollusks, sea urchins, and many other small fish were forced to compete against each other for the remaining plants. This killed off many of these species leaving other bigger animals, such as the sea star and the sea otter, to compete for the serving creators.
